Lecture Attendance System Using Radio Frequency Identification and Facial Recognition
We propose a nexus of wireless biometric solution to the problem of lecture attendance records in an academic environment. The conventional method of taking attendance records on paper particularly in an environment with lower student/lecturerratio is not only laborious but robs on the precious time that could be used for an effective learning. We demonstrated theefficacy of our proposed method against conventional methods as being capable of eliminating time wastage..Keywords: RFID, Facial Recognition, Lecture, Attendance, Tags, Short range reader
Enhanced Stegano-Cryptographic Model for Secure Electronic Voting
The issue of security in Information and Communication Technology has been identified as the most critical barrier in the widespread adoption of electronic voting (e-voting). Earlier cryptographic models for secure e-voting are vulnerable to attacks and existing stegano-cryptographic models can be manipulated by an eavesdropper. These shortcomings of existing models of secure e-voting are threats to confidentiality, integrity and verifiability of electronic ballot which are critical to overall success of e-democratic decision making through e-voting.This paper develops an enhanced stegano-cryptographic model for secure electronic voting system in poll-site, web and mobile voting scenarios for better citizens’ participation and credible e-democratic election. The electronic ballot was encrypted using Elliptic Curve Cryptography and Rivest-Sharma-Adleman cryptographic algorithm. The encrypted voter’s ballot was scattered and hidden in the Least Significant Bit (LSB) of the cover media using information hiding attribute of modified LSB-Wavelet steganographic algorithm. The image quality of the model, stego object was quantitatively assessed using Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Structural Similarity Index Metrics (SSIM).The results after quantitative performance evaluation shows that the developed stegano-cryptographic model has generic attribute of secured e-voting relevant for the delivery of credible e-democratic decision making. The large scale implementation of the model would be useful to deliver e-voting of high electoral integrity and political trustworthiness, where genuine e-elections are conducted for the populace by government authority. On the Classification of Gasoline-fuelled Engine Exhaust Fume Related Faults Using Electronic Nose and Principal Component Analysis
The efficiency and effectiveness of every equipment or system is of paramount concern to both the manufacturers and theend users, which necessitates equipment condition monitoring schemes. Intelligent fault diagnosis system using patternrecognition tools can be developed from the result of the condition monitoring. A prototype electronic nose that uses array ofbroadly tuned Taguchi metal oxide sensors was used to carry out condition monitoring of automobile engine using itsexhaust fumes with principal component analysis (PCA) as pattern recognition tool for diagnosing some exhaust relatedfaults. The results showed that the following automobile engine faults; plug-not-firing faults and loss of compression faultswere diagnosable from the automobile exhaust fumes very well with average classification accuracy of 91%.Key words: Electronic nose, Condition Monitoring, Automobile, Fault, Diagnosis, PCA
Development of a mobile airline reservation and payment system
Airline Reservation in developing countries is carried out either manually or electronically. Either methods, reservation and payment operations are done in piece-meal fashion; this is cost prohibitive, time consuming and tedious leading to inefficiency. We present an integrated mobile airline reservation and payment system. Ours is a Client/Proxy/Server system with the proxy layer serving as mobility-aware middle layer providing real-time self service support. The study shows that mobile technology is matured for airline operators in developing countries as an avenue to improve efficiency, reduce operation costs, improved revenue generation and provision of value-added customer service for airline passengers.mobile business; m-business; WML; wireless markup language; wireless application protocols; airline reservations; reservation payment systems; WAP; mobile communications; developing countries; cost reduction; inefficiency; proxy layers; real-time; self service; clients; servers; airline operators; revenue generation; added value; customer service; air passengers; travel industry; Nigeria; Afrijet; Lagos; electronic finance; e-finance.
Performance and meat attributes of chickens reared on deep litter and free range
This study was carried out on the performan-
ce and meat sensory attributes of 150 cockerel
chickens each of Harco Black and Novogen strains
reared on deep litter and free range production
systems. The birds were brooded for 4 weeks and
thereafter allotted to the different production
systems for a period of 12 weeks. Each production
system was allotted 150 chicks (75 chicks per
strain) with three replicates of 25 chicks. The birds
on deep litter production system were fed ad
libitum while each bird on free range was fed 50 %
of its daily feed requirement. On the 84 th day, a total
of 36 birds were randomly selected for slaughtering
by neck decapitation and the sensory attributes of
the meat were determined. The data generated
were subjected to a two-way analysis of variance
in a 2×2 factorial experimental arrangement.
Novogen strain on free range consumed less feed
(p<0.05) and had the best feed: gain ratio (2.72).
The results showed that the production systems
and strains gave similar results by factors though
higher percentage mortality was recorded in birds
reared on free range. Novogen strain on free
range recorded the highest (p<0.05) value of 38 %
in mortality while Harco Black on deep litter recorded
the least value (6 %). Significant (p<0.05)
differences were found in the taste and flavour of
grilled cockerel meat with Novogen strain on free
range having the highest values of 8.00 and 7.50,
respectively. Conclusively, for better meat sensory
attributes, birds should be reared on free range.Se consideró el rendimiento y atributos senso-
riales de la carne de 150 pollos de las lineas Harco
Black y Novogen explotados en sistemas de cama
profunda y a campo. Las aves, tras 4 semanas de
acostumbramiento fueron asignadas a los dife-
rentes sistemas de producción durante un perÃodo
de 12 semanas. A cada sistema de producción se
destinaron 150 pollos (75 por lÃnea), con tres
repeticiones de 25 pollos. Las aves en el sistema
de cama profunda fueron alimentadas ad libitum;
consumieron menos pienso (p<0,05) y presenta-
altos (8,00 y 7,50, respectivamente). En conclu
Hormone inducive effects of Syzygium aromaticum (Clove) extract on the reproductive performance of Bucks
Syzygium aromaticum (Clove) is a small evergreen tree of the myrtle family known for its unopened reddish-brown flower bud with strong aromatic flavor that are used for culinary purpose and are believed to have aphrodisiac properties. The objective of the experiment was to assess the effect of clove extract on hormone profile of West African Dwarf (WAD) bucks. One hundred and fifty WAD bucks with average weights of 10kg were randomly assigned to five treatments with 30bucks per treatment in a completely randomized design. Treatment A (control) and B were subcutaneously administered 0.1mL/kg of normal saline solution and 0.1mL/kg sildenafil citrate, respectively. Treatments C, D and E were administered 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3mL/kg of clove extract, respectively. The result showed a significant increase in WBC while PCV decreased with corresponding increase in extract doses. The extracts also significantly cause a reduction in creatinine, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) with a significant increase in serum urea and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). There were significant increase in serum testosterone and prolactin while follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone were reduced. It was therefore concluded that subcutaneous administration of syzygium aromaticum extract could enhance sexual function at low doses of 0.1mL/kg body weight of bucks with no observable tissue damage
